March 29 - April 5, 2020 Retreat Specifics

Please read below before registering, plus all relevant information under 'Retreat Information', especially Student Assistance & Co-Teacher information.

  1. Avila House is no longer available for overflow or single requests, therefore only  'Double Room' Occupancy will be offered on the online registration page.  There will be a 'checkbox' to request a single room and if any become available, they will be assigned on a first registered basis and you will be notified.  Please do not email asking for a status update.

This venue has some rooms with queen sized beds so are suitable for couples.  If you wish to share a room with your partner in a room with a queen sized bed, please choose the 'Couple Option' when registering.  This will allow you to enter both names on the registration form as well.

A Commuter option is being offered on the registration form due to less rooms onsite now.
Offsite suggestions are the Rodeway Inn across the street (ensure it's on Stanley Avenue, not downtown) local B&B's or local AirBnB's.

  2. Priority is given to those committing to the full 8-day Retreat. It is expected that participants for the full retreat attend every day (especially newcomers) - only certain days or partial is not an option at this retreat.

  3. 'Weekend Only' registrations are provided for current students ONLY - those who have attended a prior full residential retreat and who are already familiar with Shinzen's 'Full Grid' meditation techniques, and only accepted as space allows.  If space opens, you will be sent an email with payment options for weekend attendance about a week before the retreat start.

  4. There are options to pay via a credit card or via a cheque so please note your selection when registering. Either choice requires a completed registration form, but for a cheque payment, immediately send following the instructions in #9 and #10 below, specifically to deduct the amounts listed if you are from the United States.  Deadline to receive your cheque is March 6th or you will not be registered nor contacted.

  5. Before submitting a registration, Newcomers MUST ensure they are able to arrive early to settle in and attend the Welcome/Orientation which begins at 8 pm sharp on Sun, Mar 29th, followed by the Newcomer Only Meeting.  A Newcomer is anyone who has never attended a residential retreat with Shinzen before, not just online or one day workshops.

  6. Student Assistance Option:  Choose ONLY the Student Assistance (MALE OR FEMALE) selection to register (not the double accommodation). Choosing Student Assistance when registering is to submit a deposit only by mailing a cheque to CML.  After applying a student assistance of between $200-$300, you will be contacted to discuss payment of the balance.  For more information, please read more about student assistance on this page HERE.  Student Assistance is for Double Rooms ONLY.

  7. Check-in is 4pm - 5:30pm followed by a 'Meet & Greet' dinner at 5:30 pm.  The retreat schedule will begin at 7:30 pm with an optional sit followed by a Welcome/Orientation at 8:00 pm sharp (see Retreat Schedule page for more information).

  8. Please note: If you indicated you'd be willing to be in an online room (see Retreat Activities), you will be contacted to confirm this to allow for more participants.  Please read all Retreat Specifics information.

  13. If you register and pay via a credit card, you will receive an email of the payment confirmation, BUT this will also serve as your official Confirmation.  This is because there are spots reserved for the number of rooms available.  If you register and follow-up with a cheque, you will not be officially confirmed until your cheque is also received.  A follow-up email will then be sent to confirm.  Formal confirmations are no longer sent as all needed information is posted here on this website.  Please read all Retreat Specifics, Retreat Activities  and FAQ before emailing us to see if your questions can be answered there.
